My new dress

Wednesday, May 31, 2006

My mom just picked up my dress for my sister's wedding.
I'm super excited.

PS. The link shows the dress as green, but you change the colour to show black, that's the colour of my dress. And the accent colour is white, but you can't change the pink. I tried :(

Anyway, hope you like it!

Random thoughts

On my way to work there was a goose crossing the road and I couldn't help but laugh.

I'm thinking about Jaci Robinson today.

I'm wearing dressy shoes today and they hurt my feet but I wore them anyway.

I miss living with a family. Normally in the summer, I'd be at home with mine.

I am not taking very good care of myself, so yesterday I went for a run. Jason would be proud.

I've been working full time for officially one month. I've got paid twice!

In two months, my sister will be married.

Tonight I work at the cafe and I'm looking forward to it.

I open so much mail that the thrill is gone for me when I get a letter at home.

I'm currently updating my life 'to do' list.

Right now I feel like eating chocolate covered strawberries.

I'm learning a tough lesson right now.

I have to go back to work...

Nerdface

Thursday, May 25, 2006

Tuesdays and Thursdays I have night class.
I'm taking this really easy Anthropology class.
1. Because I absolutely love anthropology
2. It's interesting (Indo-European mythology)
3. I'm guaranteed a great mark

Tonight we had our third test in class.
I've noticed a trend.
At the beginning of the semester, almost everyone goes to school.
Gradually people stop going to class.
We haven't had a test in about a week and a half. And so lately in my lectures there have been 25 people, if that.

Tonight there were almost 100 people taking the test.
After the test was over, I went for a walk to wait for the lecture.
Guess how many people stayed for the lecture? Like 10.
Yes, I was one of those ten.
How ridiculous am I?

I can't help it.
It's who I am.
I will sit in class even when no one else will.
I want to learn.
I am a nerd.
I've faced this realization today.

Today I saw

Tuesday, May 23, 2006

Lilacs, and they reminded me of my mom
Pepsi, and it reminded me of Nathan
A cool dresser, and it reminded me of a friend I’d lost touch with
Trees, and they reminded me of my friend Jenna who is tree planting up north
A pearl necklace, it reminded me of Kristen and Nicki
Tea, it reminded me of Abby
A camera, it reminded me of Aaron
Erin, she reminded me of friendship
A hospital, it reminded me of my nursing friends [and Kristyn]
My bike, it reminded me of my dad’s kindness
A fuzzy scarf, it reminded me of my sister
A skateboard, it reminded me of Pernell
A post-card, it reminded me of my traveling friend Kirsten
Kaelyn, she reminded me of the café
SOTA, and it reminded me of Emma
Soft serve ice cream, and it reminded me of Margie
The book Pride and Prejudice, and it reminded me of Maria
A transcript from BC, it reminded me of Miranda
Someone reading the DaVinci Code, and it reminded me of Natasha
Department of Social Work, it reminded me of Sarah, Jenn (because I always think about the two together I don’t know why… and, Laura (and Nick by association)
The word ‘story’ and it reminded me of Joe and Darryl.

I love that life’s ordinary objects can be special through my eyes as I think about just some of the people they are associated with. The day is not over yet so I hope to something I see will bring your face to my memory.

wisdom teeth

Saturday, May 20, 2006

I'm in Sarnia right now hanging out with my sister.
She just had to get surgery to get her wisdom teeth out and she's drugged up and out of it. When she woke up the first time she wondered where her tongue was...poor girl.
We've just been eating popsicles and playing Mario Kart.
It's great to be home.
Hope you're having a great long weekend too!

VICTORY

Thursday, May 18, 2006

Today I wore my Amazing Race home made t-shirt to work. Why? Well, for one I love the Amazing Race, and two the Hippies won! Last night, my beloved Hippies won the million dollars and placed first in the Amazing Race. Good guys do finish first!
Margie and I were jumping up and down screaming...sorry to all the studiers in the cafe. Thanks to Nick and Adrian for watching it with me, Margie and Melissa. Great night!

PS. Nathan watched the entire finale!

Confessions

Wednesday, May 17, 2006

When I feel sad I listen to Simple Plan.
Mostly their ‘Untitled’ song, which they titled..., silly French boys.
That’s my secret.
I’ll understand if you don’t want to be my friend now.
Because I sing it at the top of my lungs and I actually like the song.
Brutal.

Congratulations Dr. Kristyn

Monday, May 15, 2006

My lovely friend Kristyn Jewell got the news today that she was accepted into McMaster School of Medicine. She’s going to be a real doctor. How exciting is that?
For those of you who know Kristyn this is now a dream come true and one that is truly deserved! Make sure you remember to congratulate her when you see her next.
WAY TO GO KRISTYN. One day we might make a great team…

AMAZING RACE

Wednesday at the cafe has been a bit empty because discussion night has officially taken a break. But, Melissa and I have been a bit excited because this means we get to watch our show. I'm sure you all know that our show is the AMAZING RACE!!! My heart races even typing the name in anticipation of next week's episode.
While we were preparing ourselves by counting down the minutes to the start of last night's episode, the lovely Margie Goodyear walked into the cafe! She came to watch the race with us! So there we were, sitting in the cafe, making every visitor watch our show (after we served them of course)...cheering/geering and getting way to involved in the Amazing Race. I think I might of scared Nick a bit when I jumped and screamed at the television after my beloved Hippies almost got eliminated, again. They were safe, thankfully, due to a non-elimination round and actually came first last night heading into the 2 hour finale next week. Margie and I were so glad MO-JO got eliminated and were so excited to hear Phil say "stay tuned for scenes from our next episode". Stay tuned we did and we are all super excited for the big finale. It's anyone's race folks. So, if you want to come spend time with myself, Melissa and hopefully Margie and Nick next Wednesday from 8-10 (TWO HOURS OF AMAZING RACE) you know where'll we be. But you might have to wait until commercial breaks for your fair trade beverages and grilled sandwiches...kidding Randy. I promise we won't get too out of control. So next week, Amazing Race finale...come cheer with us. I'll wear my Amazing Race t-shirt!
If you want to know what's going on check out the website so you don't feel out of the loop, but feel free to ask me for an episode by episode re-telling. I promise I won't disappoint. So once again, Next Wednesday May 17 @ 8pm-10pm Amazing Race Finale. See you there!!!

New House | New Job | New Girl

Monday, May 08, 2006

You might have seen from Erin’s blog that we are now living at a new location. We moved from a lovely house on Pearl Street to a much cozier house on Ward Avenue, which is pretty much right across the street from the University. [Thank you so much to all who helped us move, we wouldn't have been able to do it without you!] This happens to be great for me because I just got hired full time at McMaster in the Office of the Registrar. So I guess that means that I won’t have many more stories from the Nursing home. For that I am truly sorry, I know that is why most of you now read my blog...hahaha, I roped you all in and now you have got nothing but me. For that I am truly sorry. I intend to work some weekends so I can keep my nursing home job, but right now things are crazy and I won’t be able to do that anytime soon. At my new job I am the new girl. AGAIN. In fact, the people at the office just call me ‘new girl’. In fact, one of the ladies I work with stopped me as I walked by and apologized for not even knowing me real name. I am ‘new girl.’ And what does ‘new girl’ do all day? File paper. I have a huge stack of paper and I put each piece into one file in a giant section of University files. Have I seen your grades? Possibly. Can I change them? No, sorry. I wish. Then I’d have an excellent side business wouldn’t I? I hate my new job. I feel like I do nothing that makes a difference in the world. But how can I complain when I make 14$ an hour for putting pieces of paper into numerical order. I try to listen to music so if you have any great songs you’d like me to hear, make me a mixed CD. I’d greatly appreciate it as it helps pass the time.
I’m also going to summer school. Why do I do this to myself? To have more time for all you wonderful Hamiltonians next year, in what may possibly be my last year in Hamilton. I’m working hard to reduce my course load to minimum full time status so that I have as much time for fun things. I’m feeling swamped at the moment with all these new changes and new beginnings. One thing I am thankful for is that Erin is still here in Hamilton. We’re sharing a room now. Although I haven’t slept much this past week, I still wouldn’t change the fact that Erin and I are roommates. She is so wonderful and I’m thankful for how she’s helping me to get through this busy time. I haven’t blogged in awhile, so I figured I should update everyone on what is going on with me! One last new exciting thing is that Nathan is now officially in Hamilton for the summer. I am so thankful. It’s a lot different having him here, normally we suffer from the long distance relationship blues, but I love seeing him normally. It makes me smile. I am thankful for the new even though I was comfortable with the old because new is exciting. I’m excited for this summer…out with the old, in with the new.
